NSF, CSTB Partner on POU/POE Standardization

NSF International (www.nsf.org) and the Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment (international.cstb.fr, CSTB, Science and Technology Centre for the Building Industry), one of Europe’s leading research and evaluation centres, entered into a partnership that aims to make it possible for independent certification of point-of-use (POU) and point-of-entry (POE) residential drinking water treatment products to European Standards.

The partnership will offer the French mark — the NF Mark — recognized throughout Europe for POU and POE products, as well as NSF certification as represented by the NSF Mark.

Under the terms of the agreement, NSF and CSTB will work cooperatively to offer product manufacturers’ direct access to the NF Mark and the NSF Mark, including data reciprocity, shared audits, local project management, and more.

Testing and certification will be conducted in line with the following NSF Standards and European Standards:

  • NSF/ANSI Standard 42: Drinking Water Treatment Units – Aesthetic Effects
  • NSF/ANSI Standard 44: Cation Exchange Water Softeners
  • NSF/ANSI Standard 53: Drinking Water Treatment Units – Health Effects
  • NSF/ANSI Standard 55: Ultraviolet Microbiological Water Treatment Systems
  • NSF/ANSI Standard 58: Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Treatment Systems
  • NSF/ANSI Standard 62: Drinking Water Distillation Systems
  • EN 13443-1: Water conditioning equipment inside buildings – Mechanical filters – Part 1
  • EN 13443-2: Water conditioning equipment inside buildings – Mechanical filters – Part 2
  • EN 14652: Water conditioning equipment inside buildings – Membrane separation devices
  • EN 14743: Water conditioning equipment inside buildings – Softeners
  • EN 14897: Water conditioning equipment inside buildings – Devices using mercury low-pressure ultraviolet radiators
  • EN 14898: Water conditioning equipment inside buildings – Active media filters
  • EN 15219: Water equipment inside buildings – Nitrate removal devices
