The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE, www.asse.org) will host an audio conference call on Mar. 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. CDT to discuss the Global Harmonization System (GHS) for classifying chemicals and its impacts on the safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) profession.

GHS is designed to promote common and consistent criteria for classifying and labeling hazardous chemicals. The conference call will focus on whether or not the United States is ready for GHS, as well as what GHS is, what it is not, how it will change Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and hazard communication (HAZCOM) programs, and its impact on the SH&E profession.

Mary Francis Lowe of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA, www.epa.gov) Office of Pesticide Programs and Jennifer Silk, former deputy director for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA, www.osha.gov) Directorate of Standards and Guidance will give an overview of GHS and its impacts on all segments of the regulated community, including the probable impact of GHS on the HAZCOM program. There will be a question and answer session following the presentation.

Registrants will have access to the audio conference, a PowerPoint presentation, and resource materials. To register for the audio conference contact ASSE Customer Service at 847 699-2929, or visit the ASSE website at www.asse.org.
