Purchases of centrifugal pumps in China will rise to over $5 billion by 2010, surpassing projected U.S. purchases to become the world’s largest market for centrifugal pumps, according to the latest forecasts in the online report, Pumps: World Markets, by McIlvaine Company (www.mcilvainecompany.com).

McIlvaine says municipal wastewater represents the largest application in China and in the world, and the migration of one billion people in Asia from the countryside to cities is creating huge needs for municipal wastewater treatment plants.
The chemical and power industries represent the second and third largest applications in China and the world.
Earlier this year, McIlvaine says China became the leading operator of coal-fired power plants in the world. By 2011 McIlvaine projects China will be operating twice the coal-fired capacity of the United States and more than all of Europe combined.
McIlvaine says the United States will remain the second largest purchaser of pumps, even though there will be a slowdown in refining and oil and gas production. Coal-fired power, ethanol, and other growth areas are expected to compensate for the segments that are not growing.
