The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE, www.doe.gov) predicts a 10 percent increase in natural gas prices and a 4 percent increase in electricity costs this winter, and it is encouraging manufacturing facilities to offset rising energy costs by improving energy efficiency in the plant. The DOE’s Industrial Technologies Program is providing energy assessments and technical resources for industrial manufacturers through its Save Energy Now! program.

The program offers an Energy Champion! designation for plants that participate in and implement energy-saving recommendations. According to the DOE, the program’s total implemented energy savings is now more than $75 million.
