Tyco Flow Control”s Morin Actuator facility in Pelham, Ala., has been recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA, www.osha.gov) for Star participation in the agency’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). Morin Actuator is the first facility in Shelby, Jefferson, Bibb, and Tuscaloosa counties in Alabama to receive this honor.
OSHA’s VPP offering is designed to recognize the outstanding efforts of employers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational safety and health. The Star program is designed for worksites with comprehensive, successful safety and health management systems. Companies in the program have achieved injury and illness rates at or below the national average of their respective industries.
OSHA”s verification for VPP approval of Tyco Flow Control (www.tycoflowcontrol.com) included an application review and an on-site evaluation by a team of OSHA safety and health experts. A review was conducted at the Pelham facility Aug. 20-23, 2007, to determine the site”s eligibility for participation in the VPP.
The facility employs more than 75 workers, who manufacture actuators using such equipment as CNC machines, lathes, drill presses, saws, grinders, forklifts, honing machines, jib cranes and hand tools. The nearly 36,000-square-foot plant was built in 1994.
