The board of directors for Pump Systems Matter (PSM, www.PumpSystemsMatter.org), an educational foundation for North American pump users that focuses on pump system energy management and performance optimization, endorsed the Department of Energy”s (www.doe.gov) and Environmental Protection Agency”s (www.epa.gov) Superior Energy Performance partnership. This program is a collaboration of industry, government, and non-profit organizations that seek to improve the energy intensity of U.S. manufacturing by 25 percent by 2017 through voluntary initiatives.

Pump Systems Matter will support this effort by sharing Superior Energy Performance partnership information with its sponsors, pump users, and engineering consulting firms. Additional program details will be provided to this audience through regular communications posted on the Pump Systems Matter Web site. For example, a 20-minute presentation on “The Push for Energy Efficiency in Pumping Systems” by Douglas Kaempf of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy is currently available on the Pump Systems Matter Web site.

In addition, all PSM board members have also been encouraged to adopt the "25 in 10" pledge, which stipulates reducing their organization’s energy intensity by 25 percent or more over the next 10 years. Action items designed to support this initiative include the development of an energy intensity baseline, implementation of a management plan, and designation of an energy manager or leader within organizations.
