The village of Greenport in Long Island, New York will receive $4 million in federal stimulus money to offset the cost of a $6.2 million upgrade to its wastewater treatment system, according to a report by The Suffolk Times (www2.timesreview.com/ST/).
The Times reports $2.3 million of the funding will come to the village as a grant with the remaining $1.7 million as a zero-interest “hardship” loan through American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding.
The federal stimulus package designated $432 million in funds to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (www.dec.ny.gov). The funding is designed to finance clean water infrastructure projects in communities across the state. Ten projects, including the Greenport treatment facility, are receiving a total of $170 million in the first round of funding.
