ASCO Issues Engineering Scholarships

ASCO Numatics (www.asconumatics.com) a manufacturer of fluid automation solutions, flow control and pneumatics, announced the winners of its 2009 ASCO Numatics Industrial Automation Engineering Scholarships program. Ashley D. Donahoo of Spokane, Wash. and Daniel F. Gelwicks of Downers Grove, Ill., will each receive a $5,000 scholarship. In addition, ASCO Numatics will make $1,000 grants to the engineering departments of the University of Portland and Villanova University where Donahoo and Gelwicks are enrolled.

Donahoo, a junior at the University of Portland, is studying for a bachelor”s degree in electrical engineering. Gelwicks is a senior studying for a bachelor”s degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in mathematics at Villanova University. He is also the current student body president.

Donahoo and Gelwicks both received their awards at the ISA Young Automation Professionals Festival (YAPFEST) at the Reliant Center in Houston from ASCO Numatics executive Robert W. Kemple, Jr., vice president of sales and marketing for the Americas. ISA hosts YAPFEST every year for automation professionals between ages 18 and 30.

The scholarships are awarded annually based on the applicant”s potential for leadership and for making a significant contribution to the engineering and automation professions, particularly as they relate to the application of fluid control and fluid power technology.
