When injecting differentfluids into a microchip, the fluids are mixed more by diffusion than byconvection. In Micronit’s mixerchips, however, mixing is promoted bythe special mixer elements Micronit has integrated into the microchips.Key features of the Micronit micromixers are the very short mixingtimes — down to milliseconds — and the ideally mixed conditions. Themixers enable fast and effective mixing, even at low pressures. Theyare based on two mixing principles developed by Micronit and TheUniversity of Sheffield: the “Tear-Drop” mixer, for use with lowReynolds number mixing, and the “Swirl” mixer, for use with highReynolds number mixing. The micromixers are available in four optionsand can be combined with a lab-on-a-chip kit. This ‘LOAC MicromixerKit’ enables users to create a complete micromixer setup for immediatestart of micromixing experiments.
