Endress+Hauser hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week at its U.S. headquarters in Greenwood, Ind. The event marked the official debut of an 85,000 square foot expansion of Endress+Hauser's U.S. flow engineering plant, as well as a brand new 105,000 square foot level and pressure instrumentation manufacturing facility.

"We want to move our production as close as possible to our customers" says Klaus Endress, CEO of the Endress+Hauser Group. "Being close allows us to respond quickly to the special needs and requirements of market and customers."

The expansion of the flow engineering plant includes manufacturing capability for additional lines of instruments, as well as new systems for gas flow calibration to accommodate the facility's existing liquid flow calibration units. The new building for level and pressure engineering will allow Endress+Hauser to deliver more products directly through its Greenwood, Ind. plant. The space vacated by the level and pressure engineering business is currently being renovated to serve as a new visitor and training center for Endress+Hauser's U.S. sales organization.

Endress+Hauser's Greenwood, Ind. facility currently manufactures 90 percent of the flow products Endress sells in the U.S., and the company is planning for further expansion of its Greenwood campus. Endress says additional expansion projects going forward will be dictated by market demand and the performance of its North American business. "It is great to see that Endress+Hauser has the faith in us to make a $40 million investment in manufacturing and another $17 million in the sales center," said Todd Lucey, general manager of Endress+Hauser U.S., during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. According to Endress+Hauser, its U.S. business has grown an average of 19 percent year-over-year since 2003.

Endress+Hauser's new level and pressure facility was designed to meet LEED certification requirements with such energy-efficient features as a white reflective roof, energy-efficient wall panels and windows, and a geothermal heating and cooling system powered by a pond on the Greenwood campus. Endress+Hauser also exceeded the LEED requirement for 50 percent recycling of construction waste by recoiling 80 percent of the wast generated during the construction project. The facility expects to achieve full LEED certification by the end of the September.
