McIlvaine says Revenues from the sale of new reverse-osmosis, ultrafiltration, and microfiltration equipment and replacement modules in East Asia are expected to be over $3.1 billion next year. Desalination will be the leading application, but there will be extensive purchases in many industries.

The pharmaceutical, semiconductor, and power industry purchase cross-flow membranes for ultrapure water applications. Due to poor quality of city water in many East Asian countries, McIlvaine says reverse-osmosis, point-of-entry units are used in residences and commercial buildings.
Microfiltration and ultrafiltration systems are used as a critical step in many biotechnology and chemical processes.
