Alicat Scientific Inc. has appointed veteran engineer Michael Barger as Vice President of Product Development for the company’s line of pressure and mass flowmeters, controllers and accessories.

Barger will lead the product development team in increasing and enhancing Alicat’s range of flow control products. Building on Alicat’s patented laminar flow differential-pressure technology, he will guide R&D, design, and engineering activities.

Barger has engineering experience in semiconductors, sensors and instrumentation. Prior to joining Alicat, he was lead R&D engineer with ACI Technologies (Philadelphia, Pa.), managing manufacturing technology projects for the Office of Naval Research. His career also includes various engineering and development roles with Princeton Instruments (Trenton, N.J.), Emerson Electric (Hatfield, Pa.), Pacific Scientific (Sunnyvale, Calif.), and GM Hughes (Carlsbad, Calif.).

Eight U.S. patents in instrumentation and multiple, related foreign patents have been issued for Barger’s work. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Missouri University of Science and Technology (Rolla, Mo.), where he also conducted graduate studies in condensed matter physics.
