Watson-Marlow to acquire Flow Smart Inc.

Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group, a U.K. supplier of peristaltic pumps and fluid path technologies for the pharmaceutical, food, chemical and environmental industries, has acquired Flow Smart, Inc. for £5.7 million ($8.5 million). Delaware-based Flow Smart specializes in the design and manufacture of high purity sanitary gaskets, silicone transfer tubing and reinforced silicone hoses for the bioprocessing and pharmaceutical industries. The business will become part of a new company, Watson-Marlow Flow Smart, Inc., and will continue to be led by Lou Bongiorno, president of Flow Smart, and to be based in Delaware. 

KLINGER acquires IGI

Austria’s KLINGER Holding GmbH has acquired IGI and formed KLINGER IGI. The newly formed seals and gasketing manufacturer is headquartered in Wilsonville, Oregon, with an additional location in Denver, Colorado. It serves both OEM and MRO markets with materials that manufacture industrial and consumer products. The KLINGER Group of Independent Companies offers sealing and fluid control solutions and has production facilities as well as sales and service offices in more than 60 countries.

Chemline Inc. acquires T.A. Davies

Chemline, Inc. of St. Louis has purchased the T. A. Davies Company (TADCO) of Rancho Dominguez, California. TADCO has formulated specialty cold-cast polyurethane chemicals since 1972.  The acquisition provides Chemline with a growth platform for expansion into the West Coast and introduces new formulation technology. Chemline was founded in 1997and has pursued the Fast Set Spray marketplace and commercializing products for all applications.

IFH acquires Bowman Manufacturing Company

The IFH Group, Inc. (IFH) has acquired Arlington, Washington-based Bowman Manufacturing Company, Inc., create The IFH Group West, LLC. Like IFH, Bowman’s manufacturing operation is based on precision sheet metal fabrication capabilities with design engineering, value-added assembly and engineering support. The Bowman acquisition brings manufacturing of custom enclosures such as chassis for audio switching equipment, backup power stations, solar system battery enclosures and marine diesel, as well as kiosk design and fabrication. 

AMS purchases Performance Process Inc.

Applied Material Solutions has purchased Performance Process Inc. (PPI), based in Mundelein, Illinois, and Nottingham Company, PPI’s chemicals division in Atlanta. The two companies join Trans-Chemco as divisions of Applied Material Solutions. Performance Process Inc. is a distributor for antifoaming and chemical products in the industry. Nottingham Company produces treated silica and manufactures defoamers. Applied Material Solutions has retained all management and employees, and all contacts, email addresses and phone numbers for support and orders will remain the same. 

Dynacast acquires Tek-Cast Inc.

Dynacast, a precision metal components manufacturer, is acquiring Tek-Cast Inc./MH Machining Group. The acquisition of the Bensenville, Illinois-based company will expand Dynacast’s multi-slide zinc, aluminum capacity and CNC machining depth. 

Fabricators & Manufacturers Association to move headquarters

The Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International (FMA) will move its headquarters office and operations from Rockford, Illinois, to Elgin, Illinois. The relocation will offer greater access and convenience for FMA members, suppliers and other industry stakeholders, particularly those located in the greater Chicago area or approximate to the Interstate 90 corridor. FMA anticipates breaking ground to construct a new building in April and occupancy to occur in November.

NewAge grows team

Tubing manufacturer NewAge Industries has hired additional engineers. With this expansion, the company now offers package puncture, tear and integrity testing; tensile testing; test protocol design; pump life testing; statistical data collection and analysis; elevated increased temperature testing; product development capabilities; and quicker prototyping.

New director for Bulk Solids Innovation Center

John Lawrence has joined the Kansas State University Bulk Solids Innovation Center as its first research director. Lawrence, a doctorate-level agricultural engineer who specializes in food processing, specifically grain storage management, is the facility’s first hire since opening in summer 2015. The center is a research, testing and educational facility dedicated to the science and understanding of bulk solids materials handling. As a key researcher, Lawrence works to solve the movement challenges bulk solids have while passing through the hoppers, or containers, in which they are stored.

Red Lion appoints new executives

Global industrial automation and networking company Red Lion Controls has appointed Paul De Sousa as director of customer engagement and promoted Scott Rose to director of technical services, an expanded role that unifies sales engineering and technical support management. De Sousa has 20 years of experience in customer relations and call center management at leading manufacturing companies, most recently Moen International, American Standard Companies and Netgrocer. With more than 20 years of electronics and engineering experience, Rose will help prepare systems for the Industrial Internet of Things.

New director of sales at CO2Meter

Melyssia Santiago is now the director of sales at CO2Meter, Inc. She will grow the business in indoor air quality and safety meters in restaurants and bars, scientific, agricultural and HVAC markets. The company hired three employees in 2015 and plans to continue to grow with demand increasing for CO2 gas and indoor air quality measurement over the next decade.

Columbus McKinnon celebrates 140 years

Columbus McKinnon Corporation is celebrating its 140th anniversary as a designer, manufacturer and marketer of material handling products, systems and services. The company’s products include hoists, cranes, actuators, rigging tools, and digital power and motion control systems. Most recently, the company acquired Magnetek, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of digital power and motion control solutions for material handling, elevators and mining applications. The company is headquartered in Amherst, New and has approximately 3,000 employees in more than 70 facilities worldwide.

Hubbard-Hall CFO receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Hubbard-Hall Chairman/CFO Chuck Kellogg received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual meeting of the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) in November. Kellogg was one of the founding members of NACD in 1971 when he and other CEOs recognized the need for the chemical distribution industry to adopt best practices and become overt stewards of the chemical distribution process. Kellogg has remained active in the association and has served as its chairman, among other titles. He is a fifth generation family member of Hubbard-Hall and has had a 56-year career at the company, serving as chairman/CFO since 1992.
