McCrometer announced Nov. 10 it has acquired Automata Inc., a Nevada City, Calif.-based manufacturer of satellite and radio telemetry, software, and sensors for agricultural and rural water.

Combined with the earlier acquisition of Adcon Telemetry, McCrometer also has established a new business unit, McCrometer Connect, which will focus on developing and selling complete wireless solutions for agriculture and rural water management applications.

Melissa Aquino, general manager of the McCrometer Connect business unit said, in a prepared statement, the combined platform of Automata and Adcon’s communication options and sensor portfolio will allow the company to deliver "tangible value, such as improved yield and water savings, to irrigation districts and large farms."

According to McCrometer President Kerry McCall, "We will be able to build on McCrometer’s strong flowmeter installed base and heritage in the agricultural, municipal and industrial markets."

Automata and Adcon provide McCrometer with established product platforms in a growing product category. Since 1975, Automata Inc. has manufactured complete system solutions, including satellite and radio telemetry, software, and sensors for agricultural, rural water and industrial applications. The products provide management tools for agriculture, irrigation monitoring, pump, and water well supply systems.

McCrometer’s facilities now include: headquarters in Hemet, Calif., a manufacturing and service center in Aurora, Neb., one of the world’s largest volumetric calibration laboratories in Portersville, Calif., and two new telemetry systems and sensors facilities in Davis and Nevada City, Calif.
