KROHNE Introduces New eLearning Course on Functional Safety
KROHNE Inc. has published an eLearning course on Functional Safety (SIL), designed especially for system planners and operators of industrial process plants in all industries. The course was developed in collaboration with TÜV NORD, SAMSON and PHOENIX CONTACT and is available at www.sil-training.com/en/.
Ten eLearning modules build upon each other to provide an overview of functional safety concepts and methods, focusing on the use of IEC 61508/61511 in safety-related systems. The product neutral and commercial-free learning content is based on the SIL seminar series that the companies have collaborated on since 2009 as part of the KROHNE Academy.
Following an introduction to safety in the process industry, the modules include hazard and risk assessment, safety requirements specification, aspects of engineering and design, generic data, requirements for sensor technology, and SIL verification. Also included are calculation examples and a module for start-up and modifications.
At the end of each module participants can complete a short questionnaire to check the knowledge gained. Upon successful completion of a module, participants are issued a certificate that can be downloaded printed. After passing all ten modules, participants receive a global course certificate.
The learning collaboration partners decided to publish the content as eLearning modules due to the high demand for further education on SIL. Every system planner and operator of industrial process plants is legally obliged to minimize risk by implementing the use of available state-of-the-art technology where possible. To ensure maximum effectiveness of these measures, a comprehensive system approach is used, which considers the entire safety life cycle forming the basis of internationally harmonized standards, including IEC 61508 (basic standard) and IEC 61511 (process technology).
Registration and participation in the eLearning on SIL is free of charge at www.sil-training.com.
